SBD Prepared

Another springtime development at SBD is the successful test of the Airport Emergency Plan.

The Federal Aviation Administration requires SBD and all commercial-service airports to conduct a full-scale emergency drill every three years to maintain regulatory certification.

It was a heavier lift to plan and implement the disaster drill due to COVID-19 guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Ensuring the safety of all participants — first responders, evaluators, and volunteers who role-played aircraft accident victims — was the priority and all involved rose to the occasion to ensure this goal was met.

Watch how Airport, San Bernardino County Fire, and other regional mutual aid partners successfully demonstrated active preparedness while following all CDC guidelines.
