New Satellite-Based Flight Procedure for San Bernardino International Airport

San Bernardino International Airport (SBD) prioritizes minimizing aircraft noise impacts on neighbors. A new satellite-based flight procedure, which took effect in March 2024, is designed to provide a consistent aircraft arrival path and minimize the flight path over residential areas in the cities of Highland and Redlands, to the extent possible.

The new flight procedure is for commercial aircraft landing from the east on SBD’s Runway 24. Using advanced satellite-based technology, it offers a more stable flight path and minimizes pilots’ need to adjust engine power settings, which can reduce aircraft noise in the community. The procedure will be mainly used during strong westerly wind conditions, which are common during summer afternoons.
