Trend Talk: 1Q24
Noise comments received from San Bernardino International Airport (SBD) neighbors in January – March 2024 (1Q24) reflect these trends:
- Compared to January – March 2023 (1Q23), there was a year-over-year decrease in the number of noise comments received, while the number of distinct households filing comments increased by two. In 1Q24, noise comments decreased by one-third.
- Of the 23 comments filed in 1Q24, 12 (or almost 50%) were geographically concentrated in the city of Highland, where three distinct households filed comments for the quarter.
- In comparison to October – December 2023 (4Q23), there was a decrease in the number of noise comments received, while the number of distinct households filing comments was equal. There were 15 fewer comments filed, with 12 households filing comments.
The top five distinct households filing comments in 1Q24 reside in Highland, Hemet, and San Bernardino. Together, they filed 16 (or 70%) of the total comments.
Year-over-year noise comments decreased in 1Q24, despite:
- Ongoing jet aircraft operations at SBD, and
- Continued information and communications about the Good Neighbor Program to neighbors, aligned with available resources.
The Good Neighbor Program continues to be an important resource for airport neighbors.
