Highways in the Sky
— Educating and Engaging with Pilots on Good Neighbor Procedures —
As SBD continues to experience growth, staff recognize the opportunity to educate pilots — some flying in and out of SBD for the first time — about best practices for reducing aircraft noise and enhance the quality of life for our airport neighbors. Preferred arrival and departure procedures videos, published on SBD’s Good Neighbor website, help show pilots the best practices for operating in and around SBD.
The videos raise pilots’ awareness of residential areas, requesting they avoid them to the greatest extent possible. They describe the preferred landing and takeoff procedures and “highways in the sky” that SBD requests pilots fly.
As the home base of many essential air service providers — air cargo, firefighting and life flight aircraft, and scheduled passenger flights beginning in August — Airport staff remain committed to offering these services to our community while ensuring our partners understand the importance of reducing their operational impact on the neighbors they support.
