Trend Talk: 4Q23
Noise comments received from San Bernardino International Airport (SBD) neighbors in October – December 2023 (4Q23) reflect these trends:
- Compared to October – December 2022 (4Q22), there was a year-over-year (YoY) increase in the number of noise comments received, while the number of distinct households filing comments was equal. In 4Q23, noise comments increased by almost one half.
- Of the 38 comments filed in 4Q23, 19 (or 50%) were geographically concentrated in the city of Colton, where three distinct households filed comments for the quarter.
- In comparison to July – September 2023 (3Q23), there was a decrease in both the number of noise comments received and the number of distinct households filing comments between the two consecutive quarters. There were 76 fewer comments filed, with 18 fewer households filing comments.
The top five distinct households filing comments in 4Q23 reside in Colton, Redlands, Lucerne Valley, and Riverside. Together, they filed 29 (or 76%) of the total comments.
The YoY noise comments increase is attributed to:
- Continued jet aircraft operations at SBD
- Engaged and concerned community members seeking information about aircraft, and
- Ongoing community education and engagement about aircraft operations at SBD.
