Trend Talk: 3Q24
Noise comments received from San Bernardino International Airport (SBD) neighbors in July – September 2024 (3Q24) reflect these trends:
- Compared to July – September 2023 (3Q23), there was a year-over-year decrease in both the number of noise comments received and the number of distinct households filing comments. In 3Q24, noise comments decreased by 5 percent, with nine fewer households filing comments.
- Of the 108 comments filed in 3Q24, 76 and 19 were geographically concentrated in the cities of Highland and San Bernardino, respectively, with 11 distinct households filing comments between both cities during the quarter.
- In comparison to April – June 2024 (2Q24), there was an increase in both the number of noise comments received and the number of distinct households filing comments. There were 38 more comments filed and nine additional households filing comments.
The top five distinct households filing comments in 3Q24 reside in Highland, San Bernardino, and Riverside. Together, they filed 89 (or 82%) of the total comments.
Year-over-year noise comments related to SBD decreased in 3Q24 due to:
- Ongoing community education and engagement about aircraft operations at SBD
- Engaged and concerned community members seeking information about aircraft operations, and
- Airport, media, and government agencies’ outreach to the public about wildfires burning in the Inland Empire region and the related aerial response.
The Good Neighbor Program continues to be an important resource and outlet for airport neighbors, as well as a tool to educate pilots about neighborhood noise sensitivity.
