Trend Talk: 3Q23

Noise comments received from San Bernardino International Airport (SBD) neighbors in July – September 2023 (3Q23) reflect these trends:

 

Compared to July – September 2022 (3Q22), there was a year-over-year (YoY) increase in both the number of noise comments received and the number of distinct households filing comments. In 3Q23, noise comments more than doubled and there were 7 additional distinct households filing comments.

  • Of the 114 comments filed in 3Q23, 86 (or 75%) were geographically concentrated in the city of Highland, where 11 distinct households filed comments for the quarter.
  • In comparison to April – June 2023 (2Q23), there was an increase in both the number of noise comments received and the number of distinct households filing comments between the two consecutive quarters. An additional 69 comments were filed, with 12 more households filing comments.

The top five distinct households filing comments in 3Q23 reside in Highland. Together, they filed 75 (or 66%) of the total comments.

The YoY noise comments increase is attributed to:

  • Ongoing jet aircraft operations at SBD
  • Growth in concerns filed by additional households
  • Engaged and concerned community members seeking information about aircraft, and
  • Ongoing community education and engagement about aircraft operations at SBD.


The Good Neighbor Program continues to be an important resource for airport neighbors.
