Trend Talk: 2Q24
Noise comments received from San Bernardino International Airport (SBD) neighbors in April – June 2024 (2Q24) reflect these trends:
- Compared to April – June 2023 (2Q23), there was a year-over-year increase in the number of noise comments received, while the number of distinct households filing comments decreased by six. In 2Q24, noise comments increased by almost 60 percent.
- Of the 70 comments filed in 2Q24, 45 and 15 were geographically concentrated in the cities of Highland and San Bernardino, respectively, with a total of six distinct households filing comments during the quarter.
- In comparison to January – March 2024 (1Q24), there was an increase in the number of noise comments received, while the number of distinct households filing comments was equal. There were 47 more comments filed, with 12 households filing comments.
The top five distinct households filing comments in 2Q24 reside in Highland, San Bernardino, and Redlands. Together, they filed 62 (or 89%) of the total comments.
Year-over-year noise comments related to SBD increased in 2Q24 due to:
- Continued jet aircraft operations
- Ongoing community education and engagement about aircraft operations, and
- Engaged and concerned community members seeking information about aircraft operations.
The Good Neighbor Program continues to be an important resource for airport neighbors.
