SBD Then and Now

1994 – 2021 Time-lapse

As already stated, time is flying by. It’s hard to believe that more than two decades have passed since our airfield began its transition from Norton Air Force Base to the current SBD International Airport. This engaging video — with birds-eye views of SBD since 1994 — shares it all.

Join us on a trip down memory lane. The video shows how SBD has evolved over the years. It also highlights how facilities and operational areas have been reengineered to enhance SBD’s efficiency. Thanks to Google Earth, we have captured a span of 27 years of airport aerial views.

Federal, state and local leaders made a commitment many years ago to deliver a reuse plan for the airport. These images show that their efforts have paid off as SBD is now a thriving airport, with air cargo, corporate and general aviation, and other aviation support services operating on the airfield. These lines of business are bringing infrastructure improvements, career opportunities, economic prosperity and convenience to our community.
