Connecting with Our Neighbors

San Bernardino International Airport Out and About in Our Community

The San Bernardino International Airport (SBD) team has happily been out and about in our community in late-summer through fall, connecting and engaging with those who call the Inland Empire home. Here’s a recap of where we’ve been and who we connected with along the way.

SBD’s Director of Aviation Mark Gibbs enjoyed lunching with community members at the Highland Area Chamber of Commerce on September 24 and the Yucaipa Rotary Club on October 22, presenting the airport’s latest news and developments, including passenger activity, cargo trends, economic updates, and the Good Neighbor Program.

There’s nothing more fun for SBD staff than welcoming our neighbors to the airport. Students from Cajon High School in San Bernardino—the alma mater of SBD’s CEO Michael Burrows—toured the airport on October 11 to learn about construction and aviation maintenance technician career tracks.

It was a lovely day on October 15, when airport staff joined with local businesses, government agencies, and community groups at San Bernardino Police Department’s Coptoberfest. Staff met with neighbors to share information about SBD’s easy travel experience and Breeze Airways service to San Francisco and Provo, and responded to their questions about the airport.

The second annual Cruising at Altitude concert on October 19 was an evening to remember at SBD with airport staff, partners, and community members coming together to celebrate two years of successful airline service, and local businesses generously providing sponsorship support. Nearly 5,000 people registered to attend our free community event, with live performances by Bishop Briggs, Dead Poet Society, and DJ Richie Rich on our Boeing 737 stage. Attendees danced the night away, snacked and sipped from food trucks and a beer garden, and had the chance to win incredible prizes, including round-trip tickets from SBD to San Francisco on Breeze Airways, as well as performer meet-and-greets and merchandise.

Airport Marketing Manager Amber Casarez visited University of California, Riverside on November 19 to engage with students and staff about travel and careers at San Bernardino International Airport.

SBD hosted the 10th annual San Bernardino Family Fun Run, also known as the Turkey Trot, on Thanksgiving morning, November 28. The 5K and 10K event was so much fun, bringing the community together to wobble before they gobbled.

Please contact the SBD team to discuss speaking engagements at your school, business, or civic meeting, or participating in your community event.
