SBD Team Out and About in Our Community

Spring was a busy time for San Bernardino International Airport (SBD) staff who took “to the road” to deliver talks and tips about travel, trade, and tech-based careers with our community. With our five lines of business—commercial passenger service, air cargo, corporate aviation, general aviation, and maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO)—there was ample opportunity to share SBD’s news, developments, and career opportunities with a variety of audiences in the Inland Empire (IE).

Our team’s overall message is that SBD supports the IE’s air transportation needs, and we connected with many in the region to show and tell how we’re accomplishing this. Here’s an update on who we visited with between March and May:

CEO Michael Burrows met with the Kiwanis Club of San Bernardino, an organization that is committed to serving and changing the lives of children living in the IE through service projects. He shared how SBD is also changing the lives of our community through creating good-paying jobs and delivering economic benefits to those who live and work here.

SBD’s CEO also participated in and SBD sponsored the Corona Chamber’s 31st Annual Inland Empire World Trade Conference in Highland, CA. Michael joined a panel discussion with professionals in manufacturing and economic development who are leading our region to support local manufacturers in achieving global success, while Marketing Manager Amber Casarez exhibited at this same conference.

Director of Aviation Mark Gibbs was a guest speaker at the San Bernardino Valley College Aeronautics Department. Mark shared with the students his career path and the opportunities that were offered to him, and informed them about the types of in-demand jobs available in the aviation industry in general and at SBD specifically.

Airport Marketing Manager Amber Casarez and Marketing & Event Coordinator Evelyn Martinez headed back to school to meet with students at Ramona Alessandro Elementary School, Monterey Elementary School, and Arroyo Valley High School, all located in San Bernardino, as well as University of California, Riverside for their Senior Sendoff. Through classroom visits and participation in career and campus services programs, they connected with students about SBD and travel, drone technology, and how science, technology, engineering, art, and math courses are launch platforms for aviation and other tech-based careers.

Luxivair SBD welcomed the Highland Area Chamber of Commerce for their monthly mixer. Chamber members toured SBD’s fixed-base operator and learned about our welcoming staff and facility, which deliver important services for corporate and general aviation passengers, pilots, and planes.

SBD also provided sponsorship and partner support to these local and regional events:

  • 2025 Southern California E-Commerce & Logistics Summit, held in Pomona, where regional leaders met to discuss the current and future state of the supply chain
  • Baker to Vegas, an annual law enforcement relay, bringing racers from around the globe to compete in a 120-mile, 20-stage running event and to promote camaraderie, physical fitness, and teamwork
  • Redlands Bicycle Classic, celebrating its 40th year and attracting world-class bike racers who have gone on to compete in the Olympics, Tour de France, and World Championships, and
  • Inland Empire History Day, hosted by the SBD-based Norton Air Force Base Museum and an opportunity for locals and visitors to step back in time and celebrate the rich history of the IE community through presentations by local historical societies, museums, and authors.

That’s a wrap on where we were this past spring. We look forward to continuing to connect with our community during summer and beyond. Please contact the SBD team to discuss opportunities for speaking engagements at your school, summer program, business or civic meeting, or to participate in your community event.
